System requirements
- macOS 12 or later, Apple silicon and Intel
- Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit)
- An internet connection for drafts and the account check
Supported mail apps
- Apple Mail on the Mac
- Classic Outlook on Windows, Microsoft 365 accounts included
- Thunderbird on Mac and Windows
- New Outlook and Outlook on the web: not yet, use classic Outlook
- Gmail and Google Workspace: add the account to Apple Mail, classic Outlook or Thunderbird
Installation
Mac
- Open the DMG file and drag LetterForge into your Applications folder.
- Start LetterForge. macOS asks once whether to open an app downloaded from the internet. Confirm with “Open”. The app is checked by Apple (notarized).
- The first time LetterForge reads your mail, macOS asks whether it may control Apple Mail. Please allow it, otherwise LetterForge can’t read the thread.
Windows
- Run the installer. The publisher shown is “Berlin Bird Studios”.
- If Windows says “Windows protected your PC” (SmartScreen), that happens with new versions until enough people have downloaded them. Click “More info”, then “Run anyway”.
- LetterForge starts and finds Outlook or Thunderbird on your PC.
Updates are automatic: a new version downloads in the background and is installed the next time you start LetterForge.

LetterForge reads the thread on the computer it runs on. It only connects to letter-forge.com (account, licence, updates and drafts). We are happy to answer your IT team’s questions.
